37 degrees, 342 players from 19 teams made a scorching weekend, the biggest and the hottest in Malaysia's Ultimate Open (MUO) history. This 3rd edition hosted over 2 days on May 15th and 16th at Alice Smith International School in Serdang, was contested by a total of 19 teams from Australia, Cambodia, Vietnam, 2 from Thailand, 10 from Singapore including last year's champs Freakshow and 4 from Malaysia.
Teams were divided into five groups in the group stage and after the group games, they were re-seeded into 2 pools via cross-over games for Day 2.
MUO 2010 was organised by Tournament Director, Cheong Kuan Meng, more popularly known as Kuan, under the banner of Sports Disc Promotions, (SDP) an event management company for Ultimate in Malaysia. SDP is managed by 2 dedicated Ultimate players, Wan Safwan b. Mohd Aris and Yeow Mei Jyn who have been actively promoting the sport for the past 6 years through international and local tournaments including leagues.
MUO received sponsorship from i-amtv, Airasia and Alice Smith International School.

Sin City dominates MUO 2010 |

Results are in ! Sin City aka SG Prague did not drop a single game en-route to the Finals of MUO 2010, albeit having only 3 teams in their group on Day 1. They also won their cross-over game against DiscKnights to grab the top seed. In today's Finals, Sin City defeated Freakshow for a place in the semis against Disc Knights. Disc Knights put up brave fight although Sin City wrapped up the game to meet Pirates Heart Ninjas a team from Melbourne in the Finals. | | | | Sin City champions of MUO 2010 |
| Pirates had 2 members abandon ship or some say, walked the plank by noon. They fought Sin City tooth and nail but soon lost steam. Sin City took the win convincingly with a final score of 17-5. 3rd and 4th place is a tie between Disc Knights and Shiok both from Singapore. It should be mentioned that Pirates won the Party Award, by having 7 still on the line, when the party was over at Frangipani's on Saturday night. Elodie Selves, of Thailand's SoiCowboys won the individual Party Award.

Mum, I'm on TV ! We scored some airtime on 8tv and TV3's Malaysia Hari Ini (MHI - Malaysia Today). Kuan and Yew Eng had a chat with our very own 'Ultimate' host, Mike Campton and Moe Nasrul. Kuan managed to huck a few mosquitoes with disc and add 'TV Studio' to a list of places he has thrown a disc. Kuan and Yew Eng were on MHI demonstrating throws, with running commentary from Safwan and no, they didn't take out the camera crew. We need the publicity :P Zach Yusof from The StarOnline.tv met us at BU Community Park to do a feature of us. Watch it here: |
