Thanks to our generous tournament sponsors!

Kampung Style!

The 2009 Malaysia Ultimate Open will be held at Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur on May 23 and 24. This year's theme is "Kampung Style", referring to the Malay word for village, with all its charming connotations of rustic tropical ambience.

Registration

Registration for the tournament is now closed.

Registration fee: MYR 160 per player (discount available for current Malaysian students with student identification)

Fees should be collected by team captains and paid by wire (for international teams) or bank deposit (for Malaysian teams) into the tournament account. Contact organisers for bank details.

Format

Ratio for all games is 4:3.

Group round robin play on Saturday (16 teams).

Pool A & B knock-outs on Sunday.

Saturday's first game starts at 8:30am! So if you're arranging your own transportation, please make sure you are there with plenty of time to warm up.

Tournament venue and transportation

The tournament will take place at Alice Smith School, about 15km south of the city centre.

Buses have been arranged for the teams who requested them. The bus will leave at 6:50am sharp on Saturday. If you are left behind you will have to walk; we have instructed all taxi drivers in KL not to take bus-missers. Bus pickup points:

• Radius International Hotel (Disc Knights, Old Knights, Freakshow Green/White)
• Replica Inn (Soidawgz, Cowboyz)
• Royale Bintang (Muddies)

Alternatively, a taxi (seats 3) will cost about MYR20 each way on the meter, but many drivers will refuse to use the meter, and it can be very difficult finding a taxi back to town from Alice Smith School. You may have better luck if you ring a dispatcher to arrange a taxi. Some taxi company phone numbers: +60 3 8888 4000; +60 3 7875 7333; +60 3 9057 5757.

You can view the school on Google Maps (which will allow you to get driving directions from any starting point) at this link: http://u.nu/4kd3.

There are showers at the school, and the school is well along the way to the airport from town, so those with Sunday evening flights may wish to bring all their luggage to the fields that day.

PLEASE do not even think about sneaking into the pool at the school! If anyone does, we will lose this lovely venue, and next year we'll be back to the mudbowl you all remember so fondly from 2008.

Food and drinks

We will provide fruit and delicious Malaysian drinking water throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. For the sake of the environment, water will be provided via large dispensers so you must bring your own drinking bottle.

Lunch will be served on both Saturday and Sunday as well. The menu will be suitable for vegetarians as well as carnivores, but cannibals may have to make their own arrangements.

Party

The Saturday night party is at Finnegan's Pub, on Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Bintang neighbourhood. Map here: http://u.nu/9kd3.

Finnegan's is a 5-minute walk from the Bukit Bintang monorail station. It's also within 10 minutes' walk of almost all of the hotels listed in the accommodation section below.

The theme for the party, as for the tournament, is Kampung Style. Wear your village best. If the chief likes what he sees, that could have a bearing on your team's standing in the spirit awards. Free drinks for anyone who brings a live buffalo.

Arrival in KL

By air

If you fly AirAsia, You will land at the LCCT (low cost carrier terminal). There are three options:

1. Take a taxi straight to your hotel. You will need to buy a coupon from the counter in the arrivals area of the airport. Fare is about MYR70.

2. Take the bus to KL Sentral station (MYR8 or 9), then take the monorail (MYR2) or a taxi (MYR12) to Bukit Bintang.

3. Take the Star Shuttle (MYR15) to Bukit Bintang. It will stop at your hotel if you can explain to the driver where it is. This bus stops all over town, so it's a bit of a gamble - if they happen to go to Bukit Bintang first, it's a great deal. If they decide to go there last, you will spend an extra 45 minutes having a tour of KL's finest freeways and low-rent districts.

If you fly on fancier airlines, you will land at KLIA, the main airport. Two viable options:

1. Take a taxi straight to your hotel. You will need to buy a coupon from the counter in the arrivals area of the airport. Fare is about MYR70.

2. Take the KLIA Ekspres train (MYR35) to KL Sentral Station, then take the monorail (MYR2) or a taxi (MYR12) to Bukit Bintang. KLIA Ekspress + taxi is the fastest way from the airport to Bukit Bintang.

By bus

Each bus company has a different drop-off point, so it's difficult to list them all here. The closest major bus termini to Bukit Bintang are Times Square, Pasar Rakyat, Puduraya KLCC/Corus Hotel.
